PROJECTSAudi to Kawasaki Engine Replacement (January 03, 2010)
Engine Replacement
The engine was due for change but a fault at Donnington saw it out. The engine was an Audi 80 and transaxle gearbox providing less than 90bhp, a very reliable arrangement up until now. The head gasket was failing so a good time to change.
We've decided to upgrade to a Kawasaki ZX engine using the services of Paul at Spire Sports Cars to do the conversion.
Audi engine and transaxle with twin choke carb.
Out with the old engine and gearbox.
Stripped back to chassis
In with the new. Engine placed and mountings being welded
Engine height ok
Exhaust manifold completed, wired up ready to go.
Fuel tank and engine and gear box mid position.
Weight and distribution check for coil springs. Total 521.5 kg
